| If you are thinking of
buying a H-van, get your head read. If you are thinking of
rebuilding a H-van, call the men in the white coats. We
bought this 1968 H-van in July 2004 and decided to rebuild
it. At the same time we decided to see if I can make it go
up hills a bit better and, more importantly, stop it.
So I am fitting a Renault 21 5-speed gearbox and Rover
3.5 V8, if the V8 will not make it go up hills better, then
I do not know what will. To make it stop I am trying to fit
disc brakes to the front. Plus I have lowered the floor in
the back 50mm so I can stand up in the back, I have cut out
the inner wheel arches in the back to make more room. To
make it more affordable, I will be running it on LPG, so I
have fitted a 205 litre tank.
I have put about 700 hours of work into it so far and I
think it needs 1000 hours more. So, if you have 1700 hours
spare and you like welding rust and you like getting nowhere
fast, then the H-van is for you!
I hope it will be on the road in the late summer of 2007. |
